SHAME ON ZUCKERMAN (2023) is a show that invites its audience to witness a performative experiment in exhibitionist vulnerability. Born from the pandemic, at a time when live arts practitioners saw no horizon, Zuckerman Weiser was forced to create in isolation and questioned her identity as a performer and the dependence on the human exchange of performance. The result is a work that is both a confession and a manifesto; on being an artist, a woman, on aging and youth, on decorum and impropriety.

The performance features Zuckerman Weiser and Keren Dunietz, representing the classical pairing of dance and music. Both are virtuosos in their own right and unafraid to venture into each other's artistic territory. In this piece, Zuckerman Weiser dances with an intense presence, showcasing a diverse range of dance styles that fill the stage with movement and material. Meanwhile, Dunietz's atmospheric and looping musical interludes, along with her improvised singing, emanate from a quieter place, gradually building layers of atmospheric sound that allow the dance to shine. Each artist contributes from their distinct origins and approaches.

Unlike the stage convention of an abundance of content, form, and movement designed to provide the viewer with bread and entertainment at every moment, "SHAME ON ZUCKERMAN" is providing moments of silence, spaciousness, and seemingly vacant time. The work demands from the viewer to contemplate, to stay in moments of emptiness and thus forces them to work on their own with the elusive substance of the imagination. Instead of the customary role of the creator to be solely responsible for the creativity and imagination, Zuckerman Weiser throws the role to the viewer, at eye level. It becomes a collaborative effort where we do things together.

Zuckerman Weiser likes to appear at the edges of the stage and human existence.  She navigates between elegance and harmony, and rawness and violence, exploring both vulnerability and cleansing. The simultaneity of extremes is a recurring element in her artistic action, exposing the hypocrisy that characterizes our behaviors on stage and in life. We tend to conceal our desires, repressed emotions, and fantasies, suppressing aggression and feelings that evoke shame and anger.

Through text, sound and movement, Zuckerman Weiser and Dunietz shapeshift from seductive witch to spiritual leader to raw animal being and beyond. The performance sets and quickly breaks expectations, exposing the mechanism of surprise and the wishful tension that holds the piece together. The images and monologues manifest and fade away, dissipating like a cloud of smoke, leaving a faded reminder that they existed.

"Shame on Zuckerman" explores will and need, embarrassment, and the deep desire for recognition and remembrance. It is a tribute to the power of art to expose and transcend our limitations and a testament to the human spirit's resilience in times of crisis.
